Robotic Hernia Surgery
Precise Mesh Repair Through Small Cuts.
Robotic hernia surgery repairs the weak spot in the abdominal wall with a mesh placed from the inside, through small cuts. The robot's 3D view and wristed instruments make it especially useful for incisional hernias, large ventral hernias and hernias that have come back.

About Robotic Hernia Surgery
In robotic TAPP (transabdominal preperitoneal) repair for groin hernia, the hernia is reduced and a mesh is placed behind the abdominal wall muscles. For ventral and incisional hernias — including those at the site of an old operation scar — the defect is closed and reinforced with mesh using robotic instruments.
Dr. Waliullah Siddiqui also performs laparoscopic hernia repair (TEP, TAPP and IPOM Plus). The approach is chosen after examining you and, where needed, reviewing an ultrasound or CT scan.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is robotic hernia surgery better than laparoscopic?
Both are keyhole methods with small cuts. Robotic surgery gives the surgeon more precision and is especially helpful for incisional, large ventral and recurrent hernias. For many groin hernias laparoscopic repair works equally well. Your surgeon will advise after examining you.
How soon can I return to work after robotic hernia surgery?
Most patients walk the same day, go home in 1–2 days and return to desk work in about 1–2 weeks. Heavy lifting is avoided for about 4–6 weeks.
Is a mesh always used?
For most adult hernias a mesh is used, because it lowers the chance of the hernia coming back. Your surgeon will discuss the type of mesh and where it is placed.
Can robotic surgery repair a hernia at an old operation scar?
Yes. Incisional hernias at the site of a previous operation are one of the situations where robotic repair is particularly useful.
What decides the cost of robotic hernia surgery?
The cost depends on the type and size of the hernia, the mesh used, hospital stay and insurance. A clear estimate is given after consultation.
