Why is gallbladder surgery needed?
Surgery is advised when gallstones cause pain, infection, jaundice or pancreatitis, or when there are large polyps. Medicines cannot dissolve most gallstones, and symptoms usually return, so removing the gallbladder is the permanent solution.
